Backstory:

Blais was born in the city of Elcaster as the only child of Alix and Cedric Florimonde. Alix was a young woman when she gave birth to Blais, in her early 20s, and Cedric was an older man, in his late 30s - early 40s. Blais was an accident.

Cedric was a coal miner. His job was not easy, and did not bring in a lot of money. What little wage he earned was almost always wasted on beer and women. Alix was one of his many flings to begin with, and neither of them had intended to have a child. Were he any worse of a man, Cedric would have abandoned Alix and left her to become a single mother, but he had enough good sense to recognize that he had a duty as a father.

Alix was the daughter of a shoemaker. When she met Cedric, she was unemployed, and after giving birth to Blais, she became a stay-at-home mother. She used what she had picked up from her father's skill as a shoemaker to make sturdy shoes for Cedric, believing that this was the best she could do to protect him against the harsh conditions of the coal mine.

Alix was in touch with her father, but her mother had died, and she had no relationship with the other members of her family. Cedric had no relationship whatsoever to his family; he had left an old life to move to Elcaster, hoping to find opportunity there, and was instead saddled with the life of a coal miner.

Cedric was often not home, and the constant threat of his death hung heavy over the Florimondes' home. Alix was a young mother with no experience. Thus, Blais, an accidental child, was raised by an inexperienced mother and an absent father. They did the best they could with what they had, but it wasn't enough.

Life wasn't easy for Blais. Her mother was unable to properly equip her with social skills, and though Blais had many friends, she didn't feel particularly close to any of them, instead focusing on what she could get from them. Additionally, Blais was often made to feel "othered" from her peers, due to the fact that she was albino. Neither Alix nor Cedric were albino; this was merely a birth defect, and another reason why Blais grew to feel she was somehow a burden on her family.

Although they never told her directly, Blais would later reflect on her life as an adult and understand that she had been an accident. She knew in some sense that she was "tying her parents down," as both of them had been somewhat free spirits before having her.

When Blais was roughly 15 years old, her father died in an accident at the coal mine. Alix was griefstricken and was unable to carry out her duties as a mother. Blais had already been used to taking care of herself, as due to her position in life she'd felt that she needed to rapidly grow up, but now it was more pertinent than ever.

Over the course of the next year, Blais' household would continue to decline, as Alix was unable to provide for her, and Blais would have to frequently resort to crime to survive. She had done so in the past before, but never with such frequency. Over time, Blais' anger at the owner(s) of the coal mine grew, as her father's death had felt like the end of the world and had essentially spelled the end of her childhood.

Blais would spend some time tracking down information on the owners of the coal mine, and one day, through the use of illegally obtained explosives, caused a collapse at the mine whilst the owners were inside for an inspection. This caused their deaths, as well as the deaths of several innocent miners. Now a wanted criminal, Blais ran away from home, and moved to the city of Silmourn at the age of 16, where she began renting an apartment from a woman named Berry Reves.

The apocalypse happened soon after, and for a while Blais was not sure what to do. She felt angry at all the injustices in the world, the circumstances of her life that led her to this point, and eventually became involved with an organization known as the Weeping Shadows, where she became an assassin and started killing for personal gain.

At first, her motivations were focused on solving the injustices of the world, but over time they developed into more of a selfish desire for revenge at people who Blais felt like were "part of the problem," the problem being the happenstances of her life and the apocalypse. And soon after that, she stopped caring altogether, and began to believe that killing people in Silmourn was doing them an act of mercy, by sparing them from the injustices of life.
