Case Number: DF-002

Researcher(s): Rosalyn Stradwick, Arthur Stradwick

Threat Level: Vytris1

Nature and Origin of Disease: Plague, spread through unknown means, first observed in the eastern region of Camulan,2 on the planet of Karnos, Universe Z-Chi-21.

Background: The disease has no known cause, and can be difficult to detect in the early stages. It is thought that the disease lays dormant and first manifests as an increase in the bitter temperament of a person. Patients will become highly irritable, jaded, and generally annoyed with everyone and everything, including people that they once loved. At this stage, Vitriol Sanguis is difficult to distinguish from general depression, mood swings, or a natural response to exacerbating circumstances in the patient's life. The disease is most easily identifiable by the sickly green discoloration of the blood, by which point it is already too late.

Symptoms: Vitriol Sanguis, better known as the Bitter Blood Plague, is a highly contagious disease that can result in the following symptoms:

  • Discoloration of the blood and organs from their natural red to a sickly green.
  • Pallor of the skin.
  • Dizziness.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Spontaneous fainting.
  • Pain in the heart.
  • Joint pain.
  • Irregular temperature of the forehead.
  • Spontaneous bleeding of the nose and mouth.
  • An unusual susceptibility to bruising and bleeding.
  • General fatigue.
  • Bitter attitude towards loved ones and strangers alike.
  • Increased appetite and thirst.
  • And finally, death.

Proposed Solutions:

Solution #: 001

Hypothesis: Blood witchery may be able to cure the blood and restore it to its natural color.

Results: 15 infected patients were brought in for testing. A team of blood witches was brought in and instructed to perform a restoration ritual on the blood. The natural color of the blood was restored in ~75% of patients, however color did not return to the skin. Patients were then observed over a period of 2 weeks. Symptoms persisted and all but one of the patients have since died. All blood witches involved in this experiment are to be quarantined until further notice.

Additional Notes: As the nature of how the Bitter Blood Plague spreads is not yet fully understood, it is recommended to keep a safe distance from future patients.
